How is sitka classical learning center unique?

We provide tutoring and education consulting, and are a true partnership with families in that we offer a location, curriculum, course planning, direct instruction and assistance for  parent-instructors.  We support families who desire  a high-quality, classical, Christ-centered education.  Our educational support integrates history, culture, literature, poetry, art, music, and nature study.

We partner with homeschooling families who take responsibility for their own student records.

What Sets Us Apart:

  • Emphasis on character (the good, virtuous, and beautiful)
  • High expectations (God’s standards), both academically & behaviorally
  • Deep faith community and family engagement
  • Multiage and multigrade, small classrooms
  • Curriculum transparency, with some flexibility
  • Robust looping curriculum: Latin, art, music, science, geography, history, P.E., nature study, Shakespeare, writing, reading, spelling, handwriting, math drills/games, heavy emphasis on real-life application within math curriculum, and logic.
  • Move at your own pace (until mastery) in math and reading curriculum, allowing students to excel
  • Great books (literature that teaches virtue and has stood the test of time)
  • Memory work, recitations (songs, memorization, chants, jingles)
  • Enrichment weeks and brain breaks (Fall, Spring and Christmas breaks) for renewal
  • Teacher-led classrooms, emphasis on student responsibility and not entertainment
  • Limited exposure to screens
  • Responsibility and ownership in the community with daily service to school (daily chores)
  • Practice confidence and poise in presenting ideas and public speaking
  • Consistent five-day weeks allow for consistency for families and are ideal for fostering student focus
